About Reiki

Reiki is an ancient therapeutic system of “laying on of hands” thought to have its origin in Tibet. Reiki (pronounced Ray - Key) is a Japanese word meaning “universal life force.” It is a system for channeling energy to someone for the purpose of natural healing and to enhance other healing methods. It was rediscovered in the late 1800’s by Dr. Usui - a teacher and monk in Japan - after a ten year quest to find and learn the technique. Reiki is not a religion nor is it a religious ceremony.

How it is done: Using Reiki is simply the practitioner placing their hands on the fully clothed recipient with the intent of bringing Reiki energy to flow. The therapist is solely a conduit for the energy. Power and responsibility for healing lie within the individual recipient. There is a set of hand positions traditionally taught which give good coverage over the recipient’s entire body. Typically the recipient experiences a deep state of relaxation and sensations may range from feeling heat to tingling in the area being touched. The therapist brings intention and commitment to the process acting as a compassionate conduit for the universal life force. Reiki is a way for the recipient to connect with their healing ability restoring balance and harmony.

Reiki decreases pain and stress, increases healing, state of balance and relaxation. Reiki is love - “A pair of hands and a willing heart.” Reiki is empowerment - “Helping people help themselves.”

*

Reiki treats holistically - the body, the mind, the emotion and the spirit. The energy works on all levels to heal and to whole what is needed most.
